Dealing with a narcissist in a relationship is, without a doubt, extremely challenging.

Whether you are in a partnership with a narcissist or trying to co-parent with one, their behaviors make it difficult to connect and communicate with them.

If you’re stuck dealing with a narcissist, it’s important to find healthy ways to cope with their behaviors.

Just remember that narcissists are often emotionally abusive, so there’s nothing wrong with ending the relationship!

But I do understand there are times when that isn’t possible.

So to help you navigate this complex relationship, here are ways that you can handle a narcissist:

Understanding Narcissistic Behaviors

Identifying narcissistic behaviors is crucial.

For instance, your narcissistic boyfriend or girlfriend may constantly seek admiration by dominating conversations or dismissing your achievements.

A lack of empathy might be evident in their inability to understand your emotions.

Recognizing these traits is the first step in addressing the challenges of being in a relationship with a narcissist.

Communicate Effectively

Clear and assertive communication is key.

For example, instead of saying, “You always make everything about you,” try expressing your feelings with an “I” statement like, “I feel unheard when our conversations focus solely on your experiences.”

Practice Self-Care

Being in a relationship with a narcissist can be emotionally draining.
